“Verily I’m a drop
of the ocean of nectar.
Shunning the ocean I had risen up
in the firmament afar.
Coming down now
I’ve joined the ambrosial flow
and towards the ocean
ahead I’m in motion.”

So go the lines from “The Ambrosial” by the legendary Odiya poet Gangadhar Meher.
The Bijepur Lift Irrigation Project — officially called the ‘Gangadhar Meher Lift Canal System’ — will provide water to drought-prone areas of about 25,600 Hectares in the Bijepur, Sohela and Barpalli blocks of Bargarh district, Odhisha.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs.1246.56 Crores. The project is to be completed within a period of five years.
The water will be drawn from Hirakud dam through Bargarh Main Canal.
Ductile Iron (DI) pipes are proposed to be used in this project and the Electrosteel Group (India’s largest manufacturer of DI pipes) is hoping to be associated with this flagship project.
